MMBG More: Triple Returns
Q) The statement about always looking for triple returns for each action is interesting. Where did that come from, and how can I use it?
A) It came from when I began learning to play better chess. I started about age 8, but became more intensely interested in High School. Commonly, my fellow chess players would move each piece to accomplish one thing, and so did I. But I started to note a trend.
I learned that if I could move one piece and accomplish two things at once, all of a sudden I was winning more due to efficiency. Once I got that, I started to look for triples. For instance, was there a piece I could move which would attack something fresh, AND defend something of mine, AND lead to more squares on the board dominated by me than the opponent … ALL at once? There are a handful of times when that can happen per game, but one has to see the opportunities else they pass unused. Enough of them, one wins faster, easier, better.
Personal Example:
From a practical point of view, I once needed to make a job change. I obtained one, with particular qualities. The job was in sales, as a pre-sales analyst. This meant I was given almost all of the perks of sales reps, but without the responsibilities and risks of a quota. Doing that, I moved south, which stopped constant health issues with my son which kept him out of school a couple of months per winter. Plus, by having exposure to many clients of all kinds via the sales contact process, I gained superior industry knowledge within a short span of time when compared to just working at one company with it’s limited self-perspective. Not only did I hit a triple, but a home run, as I was paid on a California wage scale which included very, very valuable stock options.
When you have choices, list them all. Then, when you have choices listed, ask God to help you see what MANY things can be accomplished with just one action. Weigh each action on it’s own merits, and then compare the results.
God sees things on wildly higher levels than we possibly can. God’s ability to see the end from the beginning is something God wants to share with all who are God’s, which is called Wisdom.
Look for, and perceive, the myriad of possibilities. Think them all through, as you play life’s games on the chessboard of the Earth.
