Q) You say that the Wonderment of life leads to power. Elaborate?
A) Whenever we make choices in life, there are underlying issues supporting the value of the effects from the choices. It’s only through careful questioning, about probing the assumptions, and digging into the substances underneath the forms, that we begin to understand better what is truly before our eyes.
Almost every aspect of a situation has a who, a what, a when, a where, a why, and a how associated with it. More complex situations have an overlay of a lot of them. Sometimes, it just takes being methodical. Note the inflection change on the following sentences as you read them aloud:
Aloud!
THE red fox jumped over the brown dog.
The RED fox jumped over the brown dog.
The red FOX jumped over the brown dog.
The red fox JUMPED over the brown dog.
The red fox jumped OVER the brown dog.
The red fox jumped over THE brown dog.
The red fox jumped over the BROWN dog.
The red fox jumped over the brown DOG.
Did you feel the difference in the sentences? Did you notice just the inflection change made each sentence sound different from the others? Digging into the facts about each aspect of choices, thinking aloud even, can change one’s perspective!
Ask! WHO? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? WHY? HOW?
Suppose you have a situation, with two aspects, A and B. Think through them.
First, consider A and B separately.
WHO is involved with aspect A? WHO is involved with aspect B?
WHAT is involved with aspect A? WHAT is involved with aspect B?
WHEN is time influencing aspect A? WHEN is time influencing aspect B?
WHERE is aspect A occurring? WHERE is aspect B occurring?
WHY is aspect A the way it is? WHY is aspect B the way it is?
Then, consider them together.
WHO is combining aspects A and B?
WHAT is the worst, or best result of combining aspects A and B?
WHEN is the worst, or best time for aspects A and B to be combined?
WHERE is the worst, or best place for aspects A and B to be combined?
WHY should aspects A be or not be combined with B?
HOW should aspects A be or not be combined with B?
In other words, one must be willing to crave understanding to put forth the personal effort to think through each aspect, and the combination, across the who, what, when, where, why, and how of life. It takes concentration, diligence, patience, and thoughtfulness. However, the better a person becomes at this exercise, the more they see compared to how much they would see if they didn’t focus as thoroughly.
It doesn’t matter if A is junior, B is the family car, and the combination is borrowing for the prom. Understanding the well considered who, what, when, where, why, and how is better than making a decision based on fluffy thinking.
The better we ’see’, the more there is to appreciate. There is beauty to be found in knowing more, and understanding clearly. It takes effort to ask questions, but the answers are worth more than gold. Insight allows us to see past that which we normally take for granted and don’t see, and in so seeing, renders power to choose better. Insight allows us to see past that which others see, and in so seeing, renders power to choose better. The better we see, the more we help ourselves, and others, for God’s glory.
